2009 NMRA Drag Radial Champion Jason Lee

In 2008 Jason Lee showed he had a setup that was not to be reckoned with, but switching back and forth between two drag radial series took it's toll on Jason's performance.  In 2009 he decided to only run the NMRA in a quest for the championship.  The first event he set the bar high with two 7sec passes and the event win.  Forever putting a foot print in NMRA Drag Radial.

With the fJason Leeirst 7sec pass in NMRA trim and the overall win for drag radial, how hard was it getting the car to perform this year?  Did you go through alot of parts?

Not a lot of parts just alot of upkeep.  The traveling kills you, from the money aspect.  As far as overall major parts failure, I haven't really had any.  Knock on wood!

This has been a well fought, well thought year for you, with your consistent success this year how has your strategy changed from last year?

Basically focusing on just one series, keeping this combination all together, maximizing it and just going out and letting it do its thing.  You know over the last couple of years I have always had a very fast car for this combination and series.  Changing back and forth, trying to get this combination back together the night before an NMRA race always put me behind the 8 ball.  I was really unprepared trying to race with some of the best racers in the country.  That doesn't workout unless your fully prepared and 100% committed so this year I just focused on this combination and the results have really paid off.

What can we expect from Jason Lee next year? Anything different?

We have a couple things in the works possibly some team mate stuff to do.  Some outlaw radial stuff that really seems to be up and growing, very popular through out the counrty. I do like this class as well. I just want to see where the rules go.  Im not real fond of this point system. It's one of those things I just want to see how all the rules get made, see where were best fit for next year.

If you had any advice for somebody that wanted to change from a slick tire car to a drag radial car, what would that be?

It is a completely different animal. I've messed around with a lot of slicks this year and they are both extremely challenging, in there own way.  A slick tire car you have no idea its spinning till you get back and look over your data.  A drag radial car its real simple to know when your spinning cause your not moving.  As far as the radial tire stuff goes its all about power and management, do your homework. Use all the different tools that are out there to aid you in traction management and just become good at it. As a result be a better racer on the slick tires as well.

Congratulations on the championship!

Thank you!  Ford Racing Nation is a good idea, I'm glad you guys are doing it.  Especially as much as you guys enjoy racing.  It's the perfect thing for you!
